Hand Tied Extensions Chicago
Low Profile Hair That Looks Real
Hand tied hair extensions are all the rage right now, and for good reason! They’re a great option if you want to fill out your hair and add volume, or just simply make it longer. Learn all about your hand-tied hair extension options on this page and then visit us to get a consultation and installation.
What Are Hand-Tied Wefts?
All hair extensions are made in small strips, called wefts. These can be created with a machine, or by hand. The hand-tied options are much more labor intensive to create, but are thinner and more low-profile, which means they’re impossible to notice in your natural hair.
Multiple wefts are put together to create one row of extensions, and most women require 2, 3 or more rows to get the “full head of hair” look they desire. No matter what kind of hair wefts or how many rows you choose, it’s extremely important to get them installed correctly if you want them to blend in and look perfectly natural.

Application Method
Natural Beaded Rows and Habit Hair Extensions
Natural beaded rows and Habit hair extensions are simply two methods of installing hand-tied hair extensions. They both use small metal “beads,” which are clamped to your natural hair to hold extensions in place.
Both of these options are very popular now, but it’s impossible to tell if they’ll be best for your hair type without meeting in person. Sometimes for extremely thin or fragile hair, this option can create undue stress which may damage your hair over time.
The other option is to get the hand-tied wefts tied into your hair manually without any beads. This can be more gentle for thin hair, but is also more labor intensive, which means it’ll take more time and cost more money.
The best application method for you really depends on your hair, goals, lifestyle and needs. We’d encourage you to come in today for a free, custom consultation to find the best extensions for you.

The Process: What to Expect
Most of our clientele love coming into the salon for their hair extension service, and view it as a mini vacation experience. This is your chance to treat yourself, relax, and enjoy the process of getting beautiful, natural, new hair. Here’s what the process looks like:
You come in to our salon, relax, and chat with one of our professionally trained stylists about your ideas, and which extension types and installation methods will be best for you. Then, once you’re comfortable and ready, we’ll get started. Depending on your selections and hair color, the extensions may need to be dyed before use (which takes about 45 minutes). Then we’ll get started installing!
When you’re finished, you’ll walk out and may feel a bit of tightness, but the discomfort is minor and fades quickly. Afterwards you can go about your day as if the extensions were your own, real, human hair.

How Long Does the Appointment Take?
The entire process can take one and a half to three hours, depending on how many extensions you ordered. This might seem like a long time, but trust me, this is MUCH faster than it used to be. With some application methods, you could be in the salon for up to EIGHT hours, so this is very quick!
Hand-Tied Hair Extension FAQs
How much do hand-tied hair extensions cost?
You’ll probably spend $200 to $600 or more just on the hair, not including installation. Then installation ranges from $150 to $200 per row. You definitely get what you pay for with hair extensions though, so plan on spending $800 at a bare minimum for your first visit. Follow-ups to tighten the hair cost about $100 per row.
How often do I need to come back to get the extensions tightened?
You’ll have to come back every 4 to 6 weeks to keep your hair in place and looking fresh depending on your hair and lifestyle.
How long do hand tied hair extensions last?
Hand-tied hair extensions can last up to 12 months if maintained properly.
What kind of maintenance is required?
Simply treat your extensions with care, just as you would your natural hair. Use salon-quality, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Just make sure to brush a bit more gently so you don’t pull the extensions out. Then, come in every 4 to 6 weeks to get your extensions tightened.
Can I wear my hair up and style it normally with hair extensions?
Absolutely! One of the best parts of choosing hand-tied hair extensions is that they look, feel and act like normal hair. High ponytails, messy buns, loose curls, and any other hairstyle you can think of all work phenomenally well and won’t interfere with your extensions in the slightest.
What lengths are available?
The most popular hair extension lengths are 20”, and hand-tied extensions are no exception. However, we have a wide selection and will work with you to find the best option for your specific situation.
